Why the Project was Needed
Young Manchester is a charity that supports a network of over 160 youth and community organisations, reaching more than 15,000 children and young people across the city. Its youth consultancy arm, w/Youth, channels this lived youth experience into research, co-design, and advisory services for corporates, public bodies, and charities. To sustain and grow this work – and ensure profits can be reinvested into supporting young people – w/Youth needed a clearer strategy, pricing model, and service offer that reflected both its charitable mission and market realities.
Project Brief and Actions
Fairgrove was asked to support w/Youth with a strategic review, ahead of its full-scale launch in 2026. The brief was to review w/Youth’s current strategy, consult with customers and market experts, and design a refreshed pricing and service structure. Actions included competitor benchmarking, customer/prospective customer interviews, and development of clear go-to-market recommendations.
What we Did
We carried out in-depth analysis of w/Youth’s current operations, reviewed best practice consultancy pricing, and tested insights through stakeholder interviews. This was translated into practical tools (e.g., budget calculator, service tiering model), as well as a structured client acquisition strategy tailored accompanied by a longlist of target customers.
Project Impact
The project has equipped w/Youth with a clearer, more competitive service and pricing framework, a sharper articulation of its USP, and a targeted approach to growth. These changes position w/Youth to win new contracts across the private, public, and third sectors, while generating consistent surpluses to reinvest in Young Manchester’s mission.
