Fairgrove and Jon Egging Trust (JET)

“In terms of the outcomes and what we’ve got from the project … it’s been transformative in how we’ve worked with our corporate partners.”Director of Comms and Fundraising, Jon Egging Trust

Why the Project was Needed

The Jon Egging Trust (JET) was founded in memory of Red Arrows pilot Jon Egging, who tragically lost his life in 2011. Honouring his legacy, JET helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds unlock their potential by connecting them with inspiring STEM experiences. For example, JET delivers long-term programmes that connect students with mentors from STEM industries, offering workplace visits, team-building challenges, and hands-on projects that build confidence and open up new career pathways. To increase its impact, JET needed to expand its programmes for longer-term support and grow its network of corporate partners – businesses that provide funding, volunteers, and workplace opportunities – which already provide 25% of its income. Exploring new partners in aerospace and STEM, along with social value partnerships, became essential – and pro bono support helped make this possible.

Project Brief and Actions

Help JET broaden its partnerships beyond aviation and space, while building a sustainable approach to long-term corporate engagement. The project focused on mapping opportunities in wider STEM sectors and testing the potential of a social value partnership model.

“I really enjoyed that we were able to see the impact of our work … and to be able to hear that we had managed to create a difference for JET. That made it a really rewarding experience.” Fairgrove Employee

What we Did:

We helped JET expand its corporate engagement strategy beyond aviation and space, exploring opportunities across the wider STEM sectors. Our work included building a scoring framework, producing prioritised shortlists of potential partners across JET’s regions, and mapping tender pathways. We also developed a practical playbook to support engagement with bidders and position JET as a credible social value partner.

Project Impact

The project has been transformative for JET, equipping the organisation with ready-to-use prospect lists and a structured approach to partnerships. It enabled JET to target an additional £260,000 in income in 2023, strengthen its corporate income base, and extend its reach to more young people. The work also provided a foundation for leveraging social value models in future bids, ensuring JET can continue to grow its impact sustainably.
